What is traffic calming?

Traffic calming measures can be used in neighborhoods and local streets to slow motor vehicle traffic through horizontal and vertical deflections. Some examples of traffic calming measures include speed tables, speed humps, traffic circles, chokers, and chicanes to break up long stretches to straight streets.
