Crash Type   Motorist drove out of alley or driveway
Countermeasure   Improve sightlines

At some locations where bicyclists come into conflict with motorists entering the road from a driveway or alley, the problem may be that trees, shrubs, signs, traffic signal control boxes, newspaper vending boxes, or any other of the many items found on sidewalks or in shopping centers and plazas may obscure the view of the driver. One solution may be to move the obstacles, or cut back the shrubbery to make the cyclist more visible.

If there is on-street parking, another solution might be to build out the entrance to the driveway or alleyway so that the motorist can get farther out into the roadway see if there is a bicyclist (or other road user) coming.

Other Countermeasures for Motorist drove out of alley or driveway
-- Decrease wrong-way riding
-- Encourage motorists to look both ways
-- Decrease sidewalk riding
-- Stop bars and signs
-- Access Management
